Pregnancy · week by week

Forty weeks, one frame, one video at the end.

A bump photo set is the one people most regret doing loosely, because it cannot be redone. Nine months of photos taken in whatever room was nearest will never cut together.

Nine months that cut together into one video.

Cadence

Once a week, and here is why.

The convention is weekly, matching how pregnancy is counted, and it produces around forty frames: enough for a genuinely smooth reel.

The setup

Decide this once. Then stop deciding.

Every one of these is a decision you make a single time. The whole point is that the next photo needs no thought at all.

01

Pick the wall in week five

One wall, one floor mark, one time of day. Choose it before there is anything to photograph, because you cannot go back and re-shoot week eight.

02

Side profile is the main project

The side view carries almost all of the change. Add a front project if you want, but the profile is the one that becomes the video.

03

Fitted clothes, or a repeated outfit

A loose top hides the shape entirely. Many people keep one fitted item purely for the weekly photo.

04

Same hand position

Hands change the silhouette more than a week of growth does. Pick one, keep it, and the reel stops flickering.

Drag across the photo. At 0% you see today, at 100% you see the old shot. The middle is where you line them up.

The mechanic

This is what you see through the camera.

The previous shot, faded over the live view. Drag the opacity until you can see both, line them up, and shoot. Everything else on this page is just where to stand.

What goes wrong

The mistakes that quietly ruin the set.

  • Starting at week twenty, when there is already a bump.
  • Different rooms, because you were travelling. Face mode does not help here, so pick a wall you can get back to.
  • Deleting the weeks where you felt bad. Those are half the story.

Questions

Pregnancy photos, answered.

When should I start taking bump photos?

As early as you are comfortable, ideally before there is anything visible. The flat weeks at the start are what make the later ones read as change, and they are the only weeks you cannot recreate later.

How do I make a pregnancy time-lapse?

One side-profile photo a week from the same spot, in the same light, in the same fitted clothes, each one lined up against the previous week. At the end, export the run of aligned photos as a vertical video.
